I have been photographing this addable family since their first daughter’s newborn session. It’s one of the greatest parts of my job to watch families grow over the years and see them again and again. For this session we did baby Brody’s cake smash. I have 2 options for milestone sessions: baby only, and baby and family. So when people pick baby and family I like to make sure they get some great variety in their session, and if they had a newborn session with me I like to do 1 or 2 setups similar so you have comparison photos. It was so fun that grandparents got to be included in this session too!
If you’re thinking about having a cake smash session with me here are a few things to know.
- I am so excited to make your vision come to life! Tell me what you’re thinking. Do you want a more simple cake smash with a balloon garland? Or do you want a specific theme? Some great theme ideas are: favorite food, favorite tv or song. Think about your baby and something that really has stood out over the past year.
- What do I need to bring? I try to keep it as simple as possible. I have outfits and all the props for setups. I do ask that you provide the outfit they will be wearing during the cake smash and the actual cake. Bonus points if you remember to bring a towel for after the bath splash. Everything else I’ve got for you.
- When should I book? Biggest thing is to think about when you need the photos. Are they going to be displayed at a party? Do you need them for invites? You should book the session date at least 3 weeks before you need the gallery. If you don’t have any party plans for photos then you can schedule it as close to their actual birthday as you like.
